- A year of safer food April 1 marks the first anniversary of Score on the Doors, Crawley Council’s food hygiene scheme – and it’s proved a huge success. Since it launched, the council has seen a big reduction in the number of 0, 1 and 2 star premises and an increase in those boasting 3, 4 and 5 stars. It has also inspected more premises, giving diners more choice when deciding where to eat out. Last April – when Crawley Council was the first district or borough council in Sussex to implement the scheme – 412 businesses had their star ratings on the Crawley section of the Scores on the Doors website.Diners can now check out the food safety ratings for 576 premises online. The percentage of five-star premises was three per cent; now it’s nine per cent. And the percentage of 3, 4 and 5 star premises has risen from 49 per cent to 56 per cent.
